Very nice low mileage air conditioned Continental Mark II. Ford wanted a superior and standalone up-market brand aside from Lincoln, to compete with General Motors Cadillac and Chrysler's DeSoto brands. Design work started in 1952 and the finished product was unveiled for the 1956 model year. The price of $10,000 was the price of a Rolls-Royce or two Cadillacs. The new Continental was not intended to be the largest nor the most powerful automobile, rather the most luxurious and elegant American car available, designed to recapture the spirit of the great classics of the prewar period—with prices to match. The Mark II's inspiration was the celebrated V12 powered Lincoln Continental of the 1940s, among the most notable cars of that War-interrupted decade. Roughly 3,000 Mark IIs were produced in the two year model run and Ford reportedly lost money on every car. Some notable owners were Elvis, Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Grace Kelly and Louis Armstrong. This particular Mark II has been in a private collection since the early 1970s. Since we acquired the car we have completely gone through the brake system including master cylinder. Rebuilt the power steering unit, gone through the carbs and basically brought it back it a good running, driving car. The car is equipped with one of the few options available which was air conditioning. It also works. Color is Pastorial Blue with matching Blue interior. It is a nice original car that has had restoration work as needed through the years. These are great investments and considered to be one of the only postwar classics.
